4 more to go!!!
I may be incorrect in my math, but I believe I am down to 4 or 5 more Herceptin treatments!! My chemo pal is down to one and just made an appointment to remove her port. I can’t even tell you how happy this makes me – I know I am close to that point and am really looking forward to that day!
Although my joint pain is still intense, I do what I’ve always done – I tell myself, “suck it up. You got this.” Now I understand what all my athletes have felt like when I barked that to them over the past 20 years as a coach! Seriously, though, it is your constant support, texts, calls, emails, FB messages, messages on here, etc. that keep me going.
It seems every month I get a call from someone who was just diagnosed who knows someone who knows me and recommended they speak to me to assist them with their upcoming fight. At first, I didn’t think I was ready to do this, but I now feel that perhaps this is part of my purpose here. I know how far a positive outlook has taken me and hopefully, I can help others use this in order to never give up and keep up their fight (as well as “suck it up”).
A brief update on the family: Bryn was the last 8th grader standing at the Middle School Spelling Bee, made Director’s Honor Roll and continues to be the team leader in points and assists on her basketball team. In her words, she’s da bomb-diggety. Little Man Cade is not so little any more, and has just added lacrosse to his list of sports in which he participates. Boys running and hitting each other with sticks – what’s not to love when you’re 10?! Duh. They, along with Larry, continue to be my helpers at home, especially when I need to sleep after a treatment. This past time, I slept for 14 hours straight!! A lot of you have been asking about getting together to do a breast cancer walk. Save the date for Oct 13, 2012 in Fort Lauderdale for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. I chose this one because I have a personal connection to where part of the funds go – the Memorial Breast Cancer Center, my lovely place of chemo treatments. My oncologist, Dr. Perez, was the Race Chair for 2011. Thank you for your support. Now, go enjoy this nice, long weekend!!
